LinkedIn has over a billion users. Only a fraction have a profile that truly works for them. The good news: a few targeted changes set you clearly apart from the crowd.
1. The Profile Photo
No selfies, no holiday photos. A professional headshot against a neutral background is non-negotiable. You have about three seconds to make a first impression — make them count.
2. The Banner
The banner behind your profile photo is advertising space — free of charge. Use it with a clear statement, your tagline, or an image that communicates what you do.
3. The Headline
Not “Managing Director at XY Ltd”, but what you solve and for whom. Example: “I help SMEs become visible through video | Moderator & Video Strategist”.
4. The About Section
Write in the first person. Tell people why you do what you do. People buy from people, not from job titles.
5. Recommendations
Actively ask three to five clients to write a recommendation. An authentic voice from others is more persuasive than any self-description.
6. Post Regularly
Sharing relevant content consistently — at least twice a week — is rewarded by the algorithm and keeps you top of mind with your audience.
7. Use Video
Native videos on LinkedIn generate up to five times more reach than text or link posts. Even 60 seconds can deliver real impact.
